Japanese Cultural Exchange Visits the National Gallery of Art

On January 12, the Japanese Cultural Exchange gathered at the National Gallery of Art for an insightful and enriching tour focusing on the impact of Japan and Japanese art on the French Impressionists of the late 19th century. Diplomats from Japan, Algeria and the European Union joined volunteers and a gallery docent who helped us see the many ways in which Japanese objects and motifs were incorporated into French works on paper, canvas and silk. We were delighted that our guide could also join us for lunch where she continued to share her insights with us.
